11 Florida restaurants added to the prestigious Michelin Guide
Recently 11 Florida restaurants were added to the coveted Michelin Guide. The Michelin Guide is the bible of the restaurant industry. Earning a Michelin Star is a restaurant’s ultimate honor and acknowledgment of prestige.
As mentioned by ESPN, the guide was first published in 1900 in the hopes of encouraging people to take road trips and use the company’s tires. It would later evolve into the standard for restaurant review guides. Ratings are based on the quality of a restaurant’s food, the chef’s skills, the ambiance, and service quality.
The process to be considered for the Michelin Guide is no small feat. Restaurants must be suggested by trusted sources, including food critics or one of Michelin’s own advisors. After review, a restaurant can receive a rating from one to three stars.
ESPN details that “a one-star rating means it has very good cuisine, while a two-star rating indicates excellent cuisine. The most exceptional restaurants, those worth a special journey, receive three stars. As one can imagine, a Michelin star can profoundly impact a restaurant’s reputation and business.”
Florida has always been a hotbed for innovative restaurants. The melting pot of cultures in the state call for a diverse group of dining options.
In a statement about the state’s sweep of acknowledgments, Gwendal Poullennec, International Director of the Michelin Guide, said, “Florida’s finest flavors continue to impress the inspectors, who have enjoyed their visits to the Sunshine State. The restaurant teams are clearly inspired to serve the most delectable cuisine to food lovers – day in and day out. We are excited to celebrate their accomplishments and can’t wait to share those new discoveries with gourmets and travelers.”
Last year, over 23 restaurants in Orlando alone were suggested for Michelin’s consideration, and 11 locations in Miami earned stars. This year more offerings from Orlando and Tampa were added to the guide. Take a look at the new editions to Florida’s culinary elite.
