Actress/singer Rita Wilson, wife of Tom Hanks, undergoes double mastectomy

Rita Wilson has been battling breast cancer and has undergone a double mastectomy and reconstructive surgery.

The 58-year-old actress, who revealed her diagnosis and treatment in a statement to People Magazine, says that things are looking good and she feels “blessed” to have the love and support of her husband, Tom Hanks.

She also explains how her first test for cancer came back negative, but she felt like she should seek a second opinion. Wilson hopes that her story will encourage others to get a second opinion “if something doesn’t feel right.”
