Find deals on sights, food and transportation during Sacramento’s Free Museum Day
Sacramento celebrates its 22nd annual Free Museum Day on Saturday, Feb. 1. The day gives attendees the opportunity to peruse the historical holdings of more than two dozen local museums for free.
Free Museum Day is a precursor to Sacramento Museum Week, a weeklong showcase of special events and activities at more than two dozen museums from the California State Capitol Museum to the Sojourner Truth African American Museum. Participating venues will be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., with final admissions set for 4 p.m.
“We are thrilled to present the 22nd Annual Free Museum Day and the extended experience of a fun-filled Sacramento Museum Week again this year,” said Sacramento Area Museums Chair Delta Pick Mello. “We also have one new museum joining the fold this year — the Sacramento Regional Fire Museum — and we hope all of these museums serve to remind the community about the wealth of enriching experiences our regional museums have to offer all year long.”
The Sacramento Regional Fire Museum held its grand opening in November and honors the founding of the Sacramento Fire Department in 1850 with a medley of exhibits and memorabilia that highlight the evolution of the department over the years.
Transportation between museums will also be free through Sacramento Regional Transit with a printed SacRT Museum Day flyer, while Amtrak San Joaquins will be offering up to 45 percent off with a promo code. More than a dozen restaurants will provide discounts of varying values to those donning an “I Love Museums” sticker.
