The Sacramento County Fair at Cal Expo is now about 400 days away. Here’s why
There will be no Sacramento County Fair this year.
Citing the coronavirus pandemic, officials on Tuesday canceled the fair for 2020. Fair officials say that the decision was made under the direction of the Sacramento Department of Health Services, according to a news release. The Sacramento County Fair had been set for May 21-25 at Cal Expo.
“The safety and health of our fair guests, partners and exhibitors remains at the forefront of the decision,” officials said on the fair’s website. “We appreciate the outpouring of support and look forward to hosting the 2021 Sacramento County Fair May 27-31.”
The fair will host a virtual auction to support Future Farmers of America, 4-H and independent exhibitors, according to the website. The May 22 auction will be dedicated to sheep, goats and steers, while the May 23 auction will involve pigs and small animals.
Officials say additional details are soon to follow.
A time counter on the fair’s website Tuesday night showed a countdown of a little more than 400 days.
It’s at least the second county fair to be canceled on Tuesday, joining Merced.
No decision has been made on the California State Fair, which is also held at Cal Expo. It’s scheduled to run July 17-Aug. 2.
