“Chalk it Up! Around the Town” (Saturday September 5 through Monday, September 7): No way Sacramento’s fabled Chalk It Up! Festival was about to let its 30th anniversary celebration go by the wayside. In times of COVID, the famed sidewalk chalk art spreads out of its usual loop around Fremont Park and heads to more than 75 various locations around town, all laid out on a map for trekkers to find (masks and distance while you’re out there, folks). Oh, and the music? Likewise, no way this showcase was going wanting either; acoustic sets will be streaming throughout the weekend from the quarantine headquarters of Dog Party, Kepi Ghoulie, Honyock, Kevin & Allison Seconds, Richard March, Gabe Nelson, Jessica Malone, Sea of Bees, Landline, Girls Rock Sacramento and lots more. Donations for Chalk It Up’s Youth Art Grant Program, supporting K-12 classrooms and youth art programs, are also being accepted online. chalkitup.org.
