Three to Stream: New tunes from Bad Mother Nature; Tyler Pope makes guest appearance
We’re devoting our usual “Three to See” concert space to rounding up some info on what local and out-of-town artists are up to as we continue to fight Covid-19. Hosting a show online or releasing new music? Message us on Instagram with details: @adavis_threetosee.
Tyler Pope (of LCD Soundsystem) (7 p.m. Saturday, September 19): Probably best known as bassist for LCD Soundsystem, Sacramento native Tyler Pope is set to appear as a guest with local electronic artists Shaun Slaughter and Adam Jay on their “Saturday Night Stream.” Slaughter promises the “usual hodge-podge of house, electronic, disco, indie dance, funk and other fun jams.” Pope, now a resident of Berlin, recently dished up a synth-labyrinth of a debut EP, “Nur Weil Ich Kann,” available on Bandcamp. www.facebook.com/events/308370603769528.
New music from Bad Mother Nature: Four-piece rock act Bad Mother Nature are relative newcomers ‘round these parts, having formed in 2016. But a quick spin of their smattering of new singles flashes lofty dreams of rock ‘n’ roll stardom, played out in robust compositions and crafty, long-pondered hooks. At times the piano and guitar riffs are merely engaged in some good-natured sparring, and at others they’re revving engines and about to engage in a blood-rushing game of chicken. Either way, the zigzagging interplay packs wonder and reflects a dutiful sense of care. They’ve trickled out a total of four new tracks in this year of COVID-19, the most recent being the jumpy rock ditty “Time to Run,” the video for which is ironically shot almost entirely on wheels. It all has been leading up to the release of a full-length record, “Heavysong,” due in December. linktr.ee/badmothernature.
Ruckrich Duo with Joe Craven at “From the Center” (7 p.m. Friday September 11): Just spitballing here: It is certainly possible Phil Ruckrich did not name his prodigious son (age 15) after gypsy jazz legend Django Reinhardt. But I’m not sure we’d be buying any arguments to the contrary. Django and dad Phil make up the bluegrass-folk-blue-rock mish-mashing Ruckrich Duo, showing off Phil’s songwriting and Django’s instrumental chops that are quantum leaps ahead of the only decade and a half he’s spent on this earth. The venerable Joe Craven (pal and producer to the Ruckrich family) will join the stream, put on by Grass Valley’s Center for the Arts, which also has a virtual ”Gin & Jazz” gala as well as a solo-acoustic set from Roy Rogers coming up next weekend. thecenterforthearts.org.
Old Mule “Live at the Loft” (6 p.m. Saturday September 12): A breezy brand of Americana blues and folk perfect for late-summer nights, Old Mule — the first band to ever record at Two Rivers’ Cider Sessions — is back in a trio format (guitarist/vocalist Matt Fremont, drummer Neil Campisano and bassist Larry Laverdure) and streaming live from the loft above the bar. Jake Gibbons and Sean Lehe are the next men up streaming tunes from the loft on September 18 and 25, respectively. www.facebook.com/tworiverscider/events.
