It’s the first weekend of February, and for those that celebrate the lunar calendar, it’s the first weekend of the new year.

You can cheers to new beginnings this weekend with these fun events in Sacramento.

Friday

Catch a Broadway musical

Anastasia, the musical, is coming to Sacramento from Feb. 1 to Feb. 6. Set in the 1920s in the Russian Empire and Paris, a story of a young woman’s life and past unfolds.

Saturday

Take a stroll through the Midtown Farmers Market

2020 J St., Sacramento

Every Saturday, you can take a walk through Midtown’s free, family-friendly farmers market. There, you’ll find local fruits, vegetables, crafts, food demonstrations and live music.

Toast to the new lunar year with Vietnamese festivities

On Saturday and Sunday, you can celebrate Vietnamese New Year at the Sears parking lot on Florin Road. The festivities are brought together by the NorCal Vietnamese Chamber of Commerce and Community Partners Advocate of Little Saigon Sacramento.

There will be traditional lion dances, music, firecrackers, food and carnival rides.

Sunday

Watch a free movie at the Guild Theater

Guild Theater, 2828 35th St., Sacramento

On the first Sunday of each month, you and your loved ones can catch a free movie at the Guild Theater. For February, the theater will be showing “Ruby Bridges” and “Soul” at 2 p.m.

Attendees must wear masks indoors, and temperature checks will be conducted at the door.

Celebrate the year of the tiger with cultural dances

Natomas Charter School, 4600 Blackrock Dr., Sacramento

Natomas Charter School’s Performing and Fine Arts Academy is hosting a Lunar New Year celebration with fan dancing and other cultural activities.

Guests older than 2 years of age must wear a mask and are required to show proof of vaccination or a negative COVID-19 test.
