Long weekends are fun and relaxing, but returning from one can be a drag. For those who need to recharge from the week — whether or not you celebrated Presidents Day — Sacramento has some unique events to offer.

Here is what’s happening in the city from Feb. 25 to Feb. 27:

Friday

Relax with some jazz from Diane Schuur

The Sofia, 2700 Capitol Ave., Sacramento

Contemporary jazz singer Diane Schuur will be performing at the Sofia this Friday. She released an album, “Running on Faith,” in 2020, adding to an extensive catalog of records.

Unwind at a Mardi Gras Party

Stoney’s Rockin Rodeo, 1320 Del Paso Blvd., Sacramento

Spend this Friday night with seafood gumbo, dancing, drinks and karaoke. You’ll also get free beads to get into the Carnival spirit and free dance lessons.

Saturday

Enjoy the Mardi Gras-themed City of Trees Parade

Old Sacramento Waterfront, 1124 Second St., Sacramento

The City of Trees Parade is celebrating Sacramento’s vibrant culture and art community. In collaboration with Wide Open Walls, Sacramento NAACP and Sacramento Valley Spark, the parade will have a Mardi Gras theme.

The event will have dancers, live music, marching bands, floats and authentic Louisiana food. There will also be food trucks lined up on Fifth Street.

Support local art at Sactown Zine Fest

Oak Park Brewing Co., 3514 Broadway, Sacramento

Calling all zine writers and artists: Oak Park Brewing Company is holding a community get-together. Featured creators include M.Chiladas, Guai and Max Darrow.

There will be food and music; masks are required. You can get tickets on Eventbrite.

Sunday

Watch Chante Moore perform at the Black History Month Legacy Awards

California State University, Sacramento, 6000 J St., Sacramento

Singer and actress Chante Moore is performing at the Black History Month Legacy Awards, presented by the 34th annual Sacramento Black Expo. You can walk the red carpet, meet celebrities and dine at the event.

Tickets are sold on Eventbrite. The show will be following CDC, state and county COVID protocols and guidelines set by CSUS.

Serve food and gift clothes to unhoused folks in Sacramento

2701 Marina View Drive, Sacramento

Gratitude in Motion is hosting an event to donate food and clothes to homeless camps in nearby areas. With temperatures dropping this week, the organization is asking people to donate warm clothes, water and hot food items.

Carpooling is recommended since volunteers will be driving from camp to camp. If you have any questions, you can contact gratitudeinmotion1@gmail.com. You can RSVP to the event on the group’s Facebook.
