Video: See shocking Oscars moment, and how Will Smith slapping Chris Rock went down

One particular moment at the 94th Academy Awards on Sunday stunned the audience in Los Angeles and around the world.

Oscars host Chris Rock was trying to maintain a good feeling, but he stepped over the line when he made a joke about the wife of Will Smith, Jada Pinkett Smith.

Rock joked to Smith that he was looking forward to a sequel to “G.I. Jane.” xxxx

Then, Smith stood up from his seat near the stage, strode up to Rock and slapped him.

When he sat back down, Smith shouted at Rock to “keep my wife’s name out of your (expletive) mouth.”

When Rock, who joked about Jada Pinkett Smith while hosting the Oscars in 2016, protested that it was just a “GI Jane” joke, Smith repeated his words. Jada Pinket Smith has closely cropped hair and has spoken out about her battle with alopecia.

“That was the greatest night in the history of television,” Rock said right after the smack.

A few minutes later, rapper Sean Combs, who came on stage to introduce a tribute to “The Godfather,” tried to play peacemaker and suggested Smith and Rock settle their differences at an Oscars afterparty.

“Will and Chris, we’re going to solve that like family at the Gold party,” Combs said.

Trivia question: Which movie won an Oscar right after the Chris Rock-Will Smith confrontation? That would be Questlove’s “Summer of Soul (...or When the Revolution Was Not Televised).”
