A festival for grilled cheese
Take a moment and appreciate the beauty of grilled cheeses at the Sacramento Grilled Cheese Festival. Of course, no festival in the capital city is complete without a sampling of local craft beers, wine tastings, desserts, live music and games.
The two-day festival starts with the grilled cheese, beer and wine tasting on Saturday and is for people 21 and over only. The second leg of the event, on Sunday, is family-friendly.
Prices for Saturday’s grilled cheese, beer and wine tasting start at $65. Admission for Sunday’s all-ages event is $10 with kids 5 and under free.
Time and date: The tasting is at 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., with VIP starting at 12 p.m. on Saturday. The all-ages festival starts 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday.
Where: Southside Park, 2115 6th Street, Sacramento
Cheesy workshop
Still didn’t get your cheese fix? Try making it yourself.
Scratch Made Life is teaching a cheddar cheese making class — perfect for your homemade grilled cheese sandwiches, if you don’t get the chance to go to the festival.
At the workshop, you can sample homemade cheddar, learn how to make it and bring home a half pound cheese wheel to age yourself.
Tickets for the class is $40 on Eventbrite.
Time and date: 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Saturday
Where: 4932 Shady Leaf Way, Sacramento
A not-so miniature art gallery
Sacramento-based artists are featured at the group exhibition, Closer, a showcase of “small art.” Using mediums such as photography, painting, sculptures and textiles, the local artists create pieces using small, “often overlooked” materials. You’ll find art made of thread, iPhone camera lenses and ash.
Artists include Chaitra Bangalore, Kate Farrall and Erin Kaczkowski.
The exhibit is free.
Time and date: 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturday. The gallery runs until May 29.
Where: Sacramento Poetry Center, 1719 25th St., Sacramento
