Hiking not your thing? Here’s how to recreate in Sacramento without breaking a sweat.
Fun things to do in and around Sacramento might bring the idea of river rafting, or hiking, but what is there to do for those of us who don’t necessarily want to break a sweat?
Sacramento and surrounding areas have a reputation for catering to people who enjoy spending time outdoors. For example, Roseville was named as one of 25 beautiful cities to live in if you love the outdoors, according to Business Insider. The data and review website Niche allows people to view “report cards” and on categories such as schools, workplaces, and real estate in cities you might be planning to move to. The website gives Sacramento an A in the outdoor activities category.
Overly athletic or outdoor activities might not be what you consider a good time, so here are many options to explore in the Sacramento area for those looking for calming fun.
For the Foodies

Brew Bike or Brew Boat are two low energy activities for singles, couples, and especially large groups. The downside of these options are that passengers are required to pedal in order to power the vehicles.
The upside is that you’re allowed to bring your own packaged booze on the boat. The Brew Boat site mentions. You can bring beer, cider, wine, seltzers, and canned cocktails to your trip, according to the The Brew Boat website. You can choose from a standard or tiki style boat. According to the website, rides are an hour and a half and can accommodate up to 18 passengers. Prices for individuals on the public tour cost $50. The Brew Bike ride accommodates 15 people and is set up to take the group on pub crawls. Individual seats on the Beer Bike cost $40 per person, and $450 to book for a private group.
Local Roots Food Tours offers tickets to explore four sectors of Sacramento: the Sutter’s Fort area, R Street historical district, downtown and midtown. They offer two ways to explore the midtown neighborhood, either through a historical or arts directed tour.
For anywhere from $80-$90 you can book a walking food tour to five restaurants while viewing local art and cuisine.

Anywhere from one to four people can enjoy a wine tasting at Clarksburg Wine Company for $15 a head.
This short 45 minute tasting of four wines is located in Clarksburg, near Elk Grove. Consider this option if you’ve never done a wine tasting before. A low cost, short tasting might be just what you need to introduce yourself to the age old tradition before apply signing yourself up for more expensive options.
Feeling crafty?
The Prickly Pear offers two options for their Pot n Sip, wine drinking and succulent planting experiences. The first option offers wine, small snacks and the potting activity. Option two is more drawn out with more food options to go along with the planting. This is a group activity with minimum requirements of eight people for the non-dining experience, and ten people if you plan to eat.
Option A is $49 a person, with small snacks and wine included. Option B offers four menus to choose from. According to their website, the dining options range from appetizers to full plated dinners. The appetizer menu is $99 per person, while the “plated dinner+” menu costs $179 per person.
Scratch Made Life is offering cheesemaking classes. Their calendar shows four classes are being held in the Sacramento area. The class sizes are small, and if the sold-out sausage making class is any indication of their popularity, you’ll want to sign up as soon as you can.
The cheesemaking classes are $50 per person, with ten people class maximums. The dates for upcoming classes are shown a month in advance. The website allows you to sign up using EventBrite, and offers more information about each class available from now until late August.
