5 things to do in Sacramento this weekend: Cricket championship, Indian music fair, more
Another sunny but scorching weekend is coming to the Sacramento area.
While it might be worthwhile to stay indoors, away from the heat, there’s some events happening that you’ll only find in Sacramento this weekend.
Here’s what’s happening in the area for July 22 to July 24.
Friday
Enter the world of ethereal art
Kennedy Gallery Art Center, 1931 L St., Sacramento
Explore the ethereal world of fairies and mystical beings through art at the Kennedy Gallery’s “Exploring The Ethereal, The Magical.” The free event, which runs each week till August 7, features artwork from more than 18 local artists.
Watch a comedy show — but with a twist
Sacramento Comedy Spot, 1050 20th St., Ste 130, Sacramento
At the Gateway Show, you can watch stand-up comedians give it their best shot, then they’ll go to another location and get high off cannabis, and come back to attempt to make you laugh once more.
General admission is $20 online and $25 at the door. You need to be 21 and older to attend and you cannot smoke inside the venue.
Saturday
Enjoy an eco-friendly art show
Atrium 916, 1020 Front St., Sacramento
From 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. you and your family can enjoy art, train rides and activities at the Little Eco Art Market in Old Sacramento.
Kids can paint, create clay magnets and play the piano. There will also be an art gallery and vendors selling up-cycled art and other environmentally-friendly products. The event is free.
Celebrate Indian culture at a music fair
La Sierra Community Center, John Smith Hall, 5325 Engle Rd, Carmichael
The nonprofit International Society of Krishna Consciousness Sacramento is presenting an Indian music fair and vegetarian feast in Carmichael.
Spiritual singer Gaura Mani Devi Ji, known for showcasing India’s heritage with Bhakti music in the U.S., will be performing. The fair will also feature clothing and jewelry vendors, food, henna tattoos and raffle prizes.
You can get tickets online. General admission is $50, college students and kids 12 to 17 years old are $30 and those under 12 are free. According to the Eventbrite page, funds from the event go towards building a local ISKCON center.
Sunday
Catch a game of cricket
Arroyo Park, 2000 Shasta Dr, Davis
The Minor League Cricket Championship is in its second season and its time for Sacramento’s Golden Gate Grizzlies to enter the field.
The team will be playing against East Bay Blazers at 2 p.m. Sunday. You can catch the game for free at Arroyo Park in Davis.
