Kids have the back to school blues? Here are 5 Sacramento events before summer ends
School might be starting soon for Sacramento students, but there are still ways you can soak up the last bits of summer before the academic year begins.
If you’re looking for family-friendly summertime activities, Sacramento has some for you.
Sacramento Toy Show
Aug. 20 to 21 at Arden West Hilton Sacramento, 2200 Harvard St, Sacramento
If your kids are big transformers fans, you can check out the Sacramento Toy Show. The voice of Megatron, Frank Welker, and the voice of Optimus Prime, Peter Cullen, will be at the event. There will be other celebrity guests including Fast and Furious actors Chad Lindberg and Noel G.
The show features photo ops and vendors. Single day admission for children 5 and under is free, ages 6 to 12 are $15 and adults are $25. You can get the tickets online.
Cirque du Soleil Alegria
Show runs through Aug. 28 at Sutter Health Park, 400 Ballpark Drive, West Sacramento
Watch a story unfold in the air at Cirque du Soleil Alegria. The reimagined show follows a kingdom that’s lost its king and is undergoing a revolution. It’s presented with a soundtrack, iconic acrobatics and costumes. The show is about a two hours and 15 minutes.
Tickets start at $91 on Vivid Seats.
17th Annual Children’s Film Festival Seattle
Aug. 28, Crest Theatre, 1013 K St, Sacramento
The 17th Annual Children’s Film Festival Seattle will showcase a wide range of films that all kids can enjoy.
According to the EventBrite page, the movie line up includes “Kenya’s Symphony,” which details five-year-old Kenya’s newfound passion for music, “Wash Day,” a film following a young Black girl’s day washing and styling her hair, and “Bellysaurus,” which is about a dinosaur finding her confidence.
General admission for adults is $8 and children under 18 years old are $6.

Foodieland Night Market
Aug. 19 to 21 and Sept. 2 to 5 at Cal Expo, 1600 Exposition Blvd, Sacramento
As its name suggests, the FoodieLand Night Market is an event featuring more than 150 vendors. You and your family can enjoy multi-cultural plates, as well as play games, check out merchandise vendors and watch live entertainment.
Tickets are available online for $5. Children under 5 years old are free.
