Heavy metal returned to Discovery Park on Thursday as Aftershock 2024 roared into Sacramento.

The four-day festival kicked off Thursday on five stages, finishing the night with headliners Slayer and Pantera.

Slayer’s set marked the second time the band had played together in the past five years.

Three more nights of hard rock — featuring mainstays such as Iron Maiden and Motley Crue — await at the confluence of Sacramento’s two major rivers.
