Happy Paw-lidays! Meet Biscuit, voted cutest pet in America in our photo contest
Biscuit, a 6-year-old mini Australian labradoodle from Elk Grove, California, paws-itively sleighed the Paw-lidays photo contest, in collaboration with Us Weekly.
Readers cast more than 15,000 votes, but there could only be one winner in the national pet photo competition that included submissions of dressed-up cats and dogs from Florida to North Carolina to Texas. Biscuit dug up 46% of the votes in the final round, competing against 19 other pets.
Biscuit belongs to the Chan family, which includes Kevin, Cindy and Breanna. The family also has an African sulcata tortoise that weighs over 100 pounds.
When looking to add a dog to their family, they went to look at a litter of puppies, and Biscuit crawled away from the pack to come snuggle with them, Kevin said. That’s how they knew Biscuit was the dog for them.
“He adopted us,” Kevin said.
Biscuit was named after Breanna’s first dog — a virtual one, that is.
As a kid, Breanna said she wanted a pet, but the family instead got her the video game Nintendogs on her Nintendo DS. There, she named her virtual dog Biscuit.
“When he was a puppy, he was the color of a biscuit, that kind of light tan,” Kevin said. “He lost a lot of that, but he still has it on his ears and other parts.”
The family said Biscuit goes everywhere with them and likes going for rides in the car, especially to the dog park.
“He has a lot of friends, and the owners became our friends. Biscuit brought us a lot of new friends in the neighborhood,” Kevin said.
Besides going to the dog park, Biscuit loves being tickled, playing hide and seek, and teasing the family’s tortoise.
Kevin also said Biscuit is a mama’s boy, not going to bed without Cindy.
The family thinks Biscuit stood out against the other competition because of his un-fur-gettable pink nose, or as Breanna said, his “Rudolph” nose.
The winner of Paw-lidays gets a $100 pet care gift card and will be featured in an issue of Us Weekly.
