New ‘Sacramento’ film starring Kristen Stewart, Michael Cera gets trailer and release date

A new feature film that takes place in Sacramento has a new trailer and release date.

“Sacramento,” a comedy starring Kristen Stewart and Michael Cera, will be shown in theaters beginning April 11 and prominently features its namesake. Distributor Vertical released the first official trailer Thursday.

The film, which was shot in spring 2023, was directed and co-written by Michael Angarano, who also has a starring role. The trailer includes notable locations like the Tower Bridge, Dive Bar and the landmark Freeport water tower that reads “America’s Farm-to-Fork Capital.”

The movie is about divergent friends, played by Cera and Angarano, who take an impromptu bonding trip to California’s capital region from Los Angeles. Cera’s character, Glenn, is tied up in domestic life and Angarano’s character, Rickey, convinces him to get in the car so the two can explore the state before ending up in the capital city. Stewart plays Rosie, Glenn’s pregnant wife.

The film premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival in New York in June 2024.

Other notable films shot at least in part in Sacramento include “American Beauty” (1999), “Lady Bird” (2017) and “Memoirs of a Geisha” (2005).

A crime thriller starring Leonardo DiCaprio and directed by Paul Thomas Anderson, titled “The Battle of Batkan Cross,” was also filmed in Sacramento, in 2024, and is reportedly set to be released later this year.
