Grammy Award-winning artist Kaytranada to headline Capitol Mall Block Party

Grammy-winning artist and DJ Kaytranada is set to perform Saturday in downtown Sacramento during a large-scale block party on Capitol Mall organized by the local promotions group This916.

The Capitol Mall Block Party will run from 5 to 11 p.m. at 6th Street and Capitol Mall. Kaytranada headlines a lineup that includes Lou Phelps, Sango, Kitty Ca$h, and DJ Dials.

“This916 came together about 10 years ago to work with the city to activate different blocks across Sacramento,” said Ben Rozenberg, managing partner of the promotions group. “We decided Kaytranada was the right artist to activate the Capitol Mall right in front of our beautiful Capitol.”

This916 has hosted various block party events over the past decade. Rozenberg said the group worked closely with the City of Sacramento in recent years to bring major acts to its events.

Kaytranada, known for blending house, hip-hop, and R&B into dancefloor-ready tracks, is best known for songs like “10%,” “Glowed Up,” “Intimidated,” and “Witchy.”

“We all kind of collectively decided that Kaytranada is the move as he brings more of the world music aspect and breaks all types of boundaries,” Rozenberg said. “It just made perfect sense — for us as a promoter and also for the city — to create an inclusive environment for both music and people.”

Rozenberg said the event is about 80% sold out. Tickets are available for $75 on Eventbrite and will also be sold at the door. Gates open at 5 p.m., and Rozenberg encouraged attendees who plan to buy day-of tickets to arrive before 8 p.m.

“(Kaytranada) is going to perform the last few hours, but we’re expecting the show to sell out by the time he is on stage,” Rozenberg said.

The Saturday block party is open to attendees 18 and older.

A separate free EDM show is scheduled for Sunday from 5 to 10 p.m. at the same location. That event, for ages 21 and older, features back-to-back sets by Flosstradamus and Valentino Khan.
