Rapper Lil Wayne announces ‘Tha Carter VI’ tour stop at Golden 1 Center
Five-time Grammy Award-winning rapper Lil Wayne will perform in Sacramento on Sept. 6 as part of his 36-city North American tour for his upcoming 14th studio album, “Tha Carter VI.”
The album is scheduled for release Friday, the same day the New Orleans-born rapper — whose legal name is Dwayne Michael Carter — launches the tour in New York City. The Sacramento show will be held at the Golden 1 Center.
Tour guests include Tyga, a former signee to Wayne’s Young Money label, and Belly Gang Kushington.
Tickets go on sale at 10 a.m. Friday at Golden1Center.com. Purchasing options include premium seating, early entry, limited edition posters and tour merchandise.
The tour marks more than two decades since Lil Wayne debuted Tha Carter series in 2004. That album was followed by Tha Carter II in 2005, Tha Carter III in 2008, Tha Carter IV in 2011, and Tha Carter V in 2018.
Tha Carter III remains his highest-selling record, with nearly 8.3 million copies sold, according to the website Best Selling Albums. Tha Carter IV sold more than 5.1 million copies.
Tha Carter V faced a years-long delay due to a legal dispute between Wayne, Cash Money Records and executive Bryan “Birdman” Williams before its release in 2018.
Tha Carter VI is currently available for pre-order on Lil Wayne’s official website.
In addition to Sacramento, Northern California dates include a show in Mountain View. Southern California stops are scheduled in Chula Vista and Los Angeles.
