The Sacramento area has a diverse offering of events this weekend. Some events are easy to find, while others fly under the radar. This guide will help you find weekend activities in Sacramento beyond your usual hang-out spots.
There’s plenty to do, from interactive experiences and sports outings, to music, art or comedy shows. Here’s what’s happening Friday through Sunday.
The Jury Experience: An Immersive Courtroom Case
The Jury Experience brings its interactive courtroom to Sacramento after captivating audiences in over 40 cities worldwide.
This theatrical show, inspired by the American legal system, allows audiences to place themselves in the middle of a dramatic trial in a 60-minute courtroom simulation full of witness testimonies, cross-examinations and weighing of evidence to determine whether to find the defendant guilty.
The experience returns Friday at the Guild Theater, 2828 35th St., in Oak Park. Shows start at 6 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. Tickets are $45 and available at thejuryexperience.com.
Eddie Griffin at Hard Rock Live Sacramento
Comedian Eddie Griffin has a standup show Friday at Hard Rock Live Sacramento located inside Hard Rock Hotel and Casino Sacramento at 3317 Forty Mile Road in Wheatland.
Griffin got his start in comedy in 1989 and has since evolved his career to include work as an actor, writer and producer.
His body of work includes countless stand-up specials, the hit 1990s TV sitcom Malcolm and Eddie — which co-starred late-Malcolm-Jamal Warner — and movies like “Undercover Brother,” “Deuce Bigalow: European Gigolo,” “Scary Movie 3” and “Norbit.”
Griffin brings his raw truth to Sacramento and tells it like it is. Showtime begins at 8 p.m. Friday. Tickets start at $36.
Alejandro Fernández at Golden 1 Center
Mexican singer and Latin Grammy Award-winning artist Alejandro Fernández performs at 8 p.m. Friday at Golden 1 Center in downtown Sacramento.
Fernandez, who is nicknamed “El Potrillo,” has sold more than 20 million albums globally.
He’s known for his ballads, love songs and mariachi music such as “Moño Negro,” “Nube Viajera” and “Abrázame.”

R&B Only Live 10-Year Anniversary
R&B Only Live is celebrating its 10-year anniversary with an event where DJs dedicate their sets to R&B music from the past to present, allowing attendees to dance, sing and enjoy timeless classics and modern favorites.
The event takes place at Ace of Spades, 1417 R St., beginning at 7 p.m. Saturday. Tickets start at $54 and are available at sacramento.rnbonly.com.
Sac-Town Rodeo
Sac-Town Rodeo showcases the spirit of western culture that’s still bucking in Sacramento.
Get your cowboy hats and put your boots on the ground for an event filled with bull riding, mutton busting and bronc riding.
The event is at Cal Expo, 1600 Exposition Blvd. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. Saturday. Opening ceremonies start at 7 p.m. Tickets cost $29. College students, military, veteran and first responder tickets cost $19. Children six and under enter for free. Early arrival is suggested.
Sac Open Studios: Open House at The Jacquelyn
Sac Open Studios, a self-guided artist studio tour, is hosting an art show at The Jacquelyn, a premier social club at 1114 22nd St., in midtown.
The open house will feature photography by Jacquelyn Anderson in an interactive gallery, accompanied by small bites and cocktails.
The two-day event is free. It runs from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday.
In a Nutshell: Storytelling Series
In a Nutshell challenges a diverse group of storytellers to engage audiences while being challenged by different prompts to add to their stories.
Storytelling aficionados include In a Nutshell co-creator Amy Bee, comedian Adam Strauss, JP Frary and longtime Sacramento fire captain Joe Hunter, who was runner-up in Survivor’s 48th season and is set to appear again in Season 50.
The event begins at 7 p.m. Sunday at The Sofia, 2700 Capitol Ave. in midtown. Tickets cost $25.

Sac Open Studios is hosting an art show at The Mills Station Arts and Culture Center, or the MACC, 10191 Mills Station Road in Rancho Cordova. The three-day event begins at 6 to 9 p.m. Friday, and takes place from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Tickets cost $5.
Comedian Kalea McNeill will perform at Laughs Unlimited Comedy Club and Lounge, 1207 Front St., in Old Sacramento at 7 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday. Tickets start at $29.
Archive Sacramento, a new club at 1022 K St., formerly District 30, is hosting its grand opening Friday and Saturday. A dress code is enforced, and doors open at 10 p.m.
Sacramento State football hosts the Central Arkansas Bears at Hornet Stadium. The Hornets look for their second win of the season, following their 49-28 win against Mercyhurst – the first win in the coach Brennan Marion-era. The game starts at 6 p.m. Saturday. Tickets start at $30 for adults, $15 for children ages 3 to 12. There will be a postgame performance by rapper and internet personality DDG after fireworks.
Ballet in the Park is a free informal showing of classical dancing techniques at William Carroll Amphitheatre, 3901 Land Park Dr., inside of William Land Park. The event is from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday. Tutus are strongly encouraged, but not required.
Pedro Páramo free movie screening at the California Museum, 1020 O St., in downtown Sacramento, shows the Netflix adaption of the classic Mexican novel by Juan Rulfo. The movie starts at 1:30 p.m. Saturday. The film runs 2 hours and 10 minutes. Reserve a spot at Eventbrite.
Climate Justice Festival and Sun Day is a free event promoting solar energy and education on climate change at Cesar Chavez Plaza, 910 I St., in downtown Sacramento. The event is from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday.
