Free movie night returns to Sacramento-area drive-in. Here’s when to go

West Wind Sacramento 6 Drive-In in Rosemont will host a free movie night Thursday, April 23, featuring multiple double features for families and moviegoers.

The event will be held at 9616 Oates Drive, with gates opening at 6 p.m. and movies starting at 8 p.m., according to the drive-in’s social media.

“Movie night (is) for them to come in and enjoy a night to get away and not have to worry about cost,” said Jamie Davis, the drive-in’s manager. “It’s just our appreciation towards the customers.

What movies will be shown

Moviegoers can watch a range of films throughout the night, including “Zootopia 2,” “The Bad Guys 2,” “KPop Demon Hunters,” “Wicked: For Good,” the new “Anaconda,” and “Five Nights at Freddy’s 2.”

Double features will run continuously, and gates will close at 11:30 p.m., manager Jamie Davis said.

What to expect at the event

The free event will also include family-friendly activities such as bounce houses, face painting and a balloon artist.

Food and concessions from local vendors will be available, including $2 nachos.

“It’s just a fun experience to come out and watch movies under the stars and enjoy the weather,” Davis said.

Why the drive-in is hosting it

“Movie night (is) for them to come in and enjoy a night to get away and not have to worry about cost,” Davis said. “It’s just our appreciation towards the customers.”

The drive-in encouraged attendees to arrive early to secure a spot.

“Pack the chairs, blankets, and your crew—this is one of our biggest nights of the year,” the drive-in’s social media read.

A capital region tradition

West Wind Sacramento 6 Drive-In has operated in the area since 1973, Davis said.

The theater is part of the West Wind chain, a family-owned company founded in 1952 that operates locations across the West, including California, Nevada and Arizona.

“The atmosphere at West Wind is best described as relaxed family fun with a mix of old-school drive-in vibe combined with the latest technology,” the company’s website says.
