Going to see the All-American Rejects in Sacramento tonight? What you need to know
The Downtown Sacramento Partnership announced early Friday morning that this week’s Concerts in the Park would have a last-minute addition, with a big marquee name.
Punk rock band The All-American Rejects are headlining the weekly summer concert series for tonight’s show at Cesar Chavez Plaza, 910 I St. in downtown Sacramento.
In an Instagram post, the Concerts in the Park organization revealed the major update, saying the group known for 2000s hits including “Gives You Hell” and “Dirty Little Secret” would play a free acoustic set as part of the Friday concert.
The band last played Sacramento during last year’s Aftershock festival at Discovery Park. On Saturday night, the group will play a concert at The Venue at Thunder Valley Casino Resort with opener Joyce Manor.
Tonight’s rock-themed Concerts in the Park show will also feature bands Tarnish, Say It Backwards, Nothing Special and NESSS.
The show starts at 6 p.m., and the last band wraps by 9:30 p.m., according to the Concerts in the Park organizers.
What to know if you plan to go
Weather conditions in Sacramento are expected to be mild in time for the concert this evening. According to the National Weather Service, temperatures on Friday are expected to range between a 75 degree high to a 54 degree low, with winds up to 8 mph.
As Concerts in the Park is a free live music series, there are no tickets required, but capacity is still limited. The Downtown Sacramento Partnership said if the plaza fills up during the show, entry to the concert will be on a “one-out-one-in” basis.
“We encourage everyone to get there early to guarantee a good spot in the park,” the organizers said in an emailed statement.
Additional security and medical personnel will be at the concert in anticipation of larger crowds, according to the Downtown Sacramento Partnership.
Parking may also be difficult due to the potential for increased crowds. City Hall Garage, 1000 I St. across the street from the plaza, is the closest parking garage. According to the organizers, guests can reserve and pre-pay for parking using the SacPark website.
Concerts in the Park organizers recommend concertgoers use public transportation and rideshare options to avoid parking problems. All three of Sacramento Regional Transit’s light rail lines provide close access to the plaza, at the St. Rose of Lima Park stop, the Cathedral Square Station stop and the Eighth and K Street stop.
A number of bus routes also stop adjacent to Cesar Chavez Plaza. Check the SacRT website for route maps and planning options.
