It’s so intertwined with our civic identity that it even inspired a nickname. Yes, we’re talking about the tomato, and you’ll have a chance to celebrate it in all of its summer glory at the Sacratomato Festival, which runs 4-8 p.m. Saturday, July 23. The free event includes a salsa-making contest, educational activities for kids, cooking demonstrations and live music from bands including Skylar’s Pool (which features Paragary chef Kurt Spataro and KFBK’s Kitty O’Neal). Now in its third year, the Sacratomato Festival takes place on the grounds outside Sutter’s Fort, 2701 L St., Sacramento.
