B Street Theatre producing artistic director Buck Busfield has announced the early closing of the current main stage production “The Best Brothers.”

The production had been scheduled to run through Sept. 13 but will close Aug. 16 after its 2 p.m. matinee performance. The show had received unfavorable reviews, and Busfield said, “It’s just not doing well.”

In other scheduling adjustments, the current popular B3 offering “Grounded” is receiving an open-ended extension. The one-woman drama starring Davis native Alicia Hunt as a fighter pilot forced to operate drones has been a critical hit, and audiences have responded strongly as well.

The next show scheduled in B3, “Bars and Measures,” a world premiere commission by B Street, will now move into the main stage space with “Grounded” occupying B3. Busfield said that despite the logistics of moving “Bars and Measures” into the new theater, it would likely preview the weekend of Aug. 22-23 and open Aug. 25- 26. Exact dates are still being determined.

Busfield said several options will be offered to subscribers who didn’t have the opportunity to see the closed production.
