Those looking for an Easter Sunday event outside of egg gathering might want to consider an Elk Grove musical about Jesus’ life.

“For What Purpose” is based on Jesus’ birth, death and resurrection. Written and produced by members of The Rock Church, the play returns after a 12-year run from 1986 to 1997 and features a 250-person cast.

“From the moment you step into the auditorium, you will feel like a part of the greatest story ever told,” the website for the play reads. “You will be surrounded by a living stage that spans the entire building.”

A video preview for the play shows a giant stage filled with colors, light, action and drama.

When: Shows start at 1 p.m. and 7 p.m. Sunday, March 27.

Where: 8520 Bradshaw Road, Elk Grove

Admission: $10-$38
