Band Together celebrates its fourth week of live entertainment on Friday night.
We’ll be joined by two-time Grammy nominated artist and Sacramento native Tycho, the Night Hikes and Shelby Murray, a co-founder of Sacramento’s Sad Girlz Club.
This event was curated by Harlow’s Restaurant and Nightclub in midtown. Here’s what we ask: Support Harlow’s night crew through this GoFundMe account. Harlow’s is also selling gift cards at a 10 percent discount that can be purchased here.
Sacramento native Scott Hansen – known musically as Tycho – will kick off the night at 6 p.m.
Hansen isn’t planning to give a live performance, but he will sit down virtually with our host, Aaron Davis, to talk about what he’s up to and play some pre-recorded music of his. Consider it a “behind-the-music” look into the craft of a world-renowned artist.
Tycho has been nominated for a pair of Grammy Awards. Now based in San Francisco, Tycho’s albums include “Past is Prologue,” “Epoch” and “Weather.” He’s a composer, songwriter and photographer, and he’s toured the world. His music genres include chillwave, dance, downtempo and post-rock.
A sampling of Tycho’s visual art can be found here, under his artist name ISO50.
Night Hikes, a duo of Olivia Godby and Matthew Farrell, “were once kicked out of a chapel at the University of Notre Dame for recording a music video instead of praying,” according to their bio.
“After finishing school in 2016, they rented a house and spent the summer recording their first release, ‘The Blue Hour,’ which was mixed by New York based engineer Rusty Santos (Animal Collective, Beach House),” their bio continues.
They moved to Seattle in 2018 and created the album, “Chalice.” On it, “the pair strive to recover the long silenced feminine principle, refusing to accept that violent power dynamics are inherent to human nature. Godby and Farrell each float seamlessly between guitar, keys, and vocals amidst the ghostly natural reverb of the old Catholic church in which they recorded, this time with permission.”
Check out their music – and buy some, while you’re at it – on Night Hikes’ bandcamp page.
Rounding out the night is Shelby Murray. At 18, Murray “dug her feet deep into the local music scene in Sacramento,” her bio reads. She spent seven years writing, performing at open mics and doing acoustic shows before co-founding Sad Girlz Club in 2018.
The band’s debut record, “Hard Feelings,” was released in February 2019. They snagged a Sacramento Area Music Award for Best Punk Band and are working on a second album. Murray also helped establish “power-pop group” Lousy Advice last year and has two albums with them on Lavasocks Records.

Enjoy this great night of music and entertainment.
