Warrior’s wife gives away hundreds of prom dresses in Oakland
Prom season can get expensive, but a few hundred lucky girls in Oakland didn’t have to spend a dime on a dress this weekend.
Golden State Warriors forward David West’s wife, Lesley West, teamed up with the Oakland Education Fund to help give away 1,000 prom dresses Saturday at the Oakland High School gym, the San Francisco Chronicle reported.
High school girls searched through about 15 racks for their dream dress. The back of the gym was converted into a makeshift fitting room.
According to NBA.com, West has been organizing prom dress giveaways in the cities she’s lived in since 2003-04, when her husband played for New Orleans. She told the Chronicle she tries to get dresses throughout the year.
“If I can put that smile on somebody’s face and make them feel like a princess because of me, (it’s) worthwhile,” West told the Chronicle.
The Warriors promoted the event on Twitter.
