What main dining room breakfast is like on a cruise

Most people only think of the main dining room at dinner, then file into a long buffet line every morning for an omelet. They are missing something.

TravelHost's Come Cruise With Me Editor in Chief Daniel Kline and his travel agent partner, Postcard Travel Planning's Dennis Post, are aboard Celebrity Beyond to explain when the main dining room opens beyond dinner and why skipping the buffet might be the best call you make all cruise.

The breakfast option most cruisers miss

Dan Kline: Hey there, cruisers. Dan and Dennis your Travelhosts. We are in front of the Metropolitan Restaurant, the Cosmopolitan Restaurant. The 'Opolitan Restaurant, we will just call it. It's part of the 'Opolitan family here on Celebrity Beyond. And one of the things people don't realize, they come here into the four main dining rooms on Edge-class ships, the two main dining rooms on smaller ships.

They come for dinner, and they don't realize you can come… One of these restaurants is open every day for breakfast. That is a formal sit-down breakfast, and you can get an omelet made to order. Now, you can get that at the buffet, but there's gonna be a line. There's gonna be 20 people ahead of you.

Dennis Post: Yeah.

Kline: The quality of the bacon is infinitely better in the dining room. And Dennis, when else can you eat in the main dining room?

Post: So a lot of them will have lunch or they'll have a special brunch.

Kline: Lunch , brunch on sea days.

Post: Sea days, yeah.

Kline: So usually-

Post: It's only sea days …

Kline: on a port day, not full.

Usually, you got the buffet. You've got, out here on Celebrity, you've got the burger bar. You can't go to the main dining room. Now, the main dining room for lunch has a salad bar, has a little, has a nice selection of stuff, and it's really a change of pace. The brunch is really fun. You get- There's a mix of breakfast and lunch, so for those of you who don't wake up till 10 or 11:00, you get to-

I never manage to get breakfast on a cruise ship, and it's not because I'm not awake. It's because we're working. We get up at 8:00 AM, and you get up at 5:00 AM, but I get up at 8:00 AM, but I immediately go to work, and by the time I'm done for the day or at least done for a little, they've stopped serving breakfast.

I try to find one day where I can have breakfast. But breakfast in the main dining room is actually a treat, and it's worth doing on Celebrity.
