Escapes: Off Beat Festival poised for artful debut in Reno

The Biggest Little City is set to host a new national and regional arts and music event.

The Off Beat Arts and Music Festival in Reno runs from Thursday,

Nov. 5, through Sunday, Nov. 8.

The eclectic lineup includes more than 50 musicians from genres such as country, alternative, avant-garde and blues.

The festival also will feature art showcases, walking tours of Reno and local shopping and food offerings.

The festival will be hosted at various venues, eateries and bars across the city, including 3rd Street Bar and Chapel Tavern.

Multi-day passes vary from $39 to $106. Single-day passes range from $10 to $17 per day.

What: The Davis Cemetery District, a historic cemetery dating back to 1855, will host an event honoring life, love and the remembrance of ancestors. Activities will include traditional Mexican dance, poetry readings, a community altar and music by local artists.

Baltic countries travel talk


What: Sacramento’s No Reservations Travel Club will discuss traveling through the Baltic countries at its November meeting. Scott Jercich of Vertical Horizons Travel will present video and speak on traveling through Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania.

Mushroom, Wine & Beer Festival


What: Explore Mendocino County’s more than 3,000 mushroom varieties through the lenses of farmers, chefs, wine lovers and beer connoisseurs. The nine-day festival, held at different spots throughout the county, features a variety of events, such as mushroom and beverage pairings, cooking classes and exhibits.
