Stargazing Snowshoe Tour brings winter fun, astronomy to Northstar

Traverse the snow-covered, forested terrain around Northstar Resort while enjoying the starry skies above.

The 2 1/2 -hour snowshoeing tour will be led by poet and star guide Tony Berendson on the day after Christmas: Saturday, Dec. 26.

A bonfire, along with stargazing through a top-of-the-line telescope, and hot drinks at The Ritz-Carlton, Lake Tahoe will succeed the tour.

Tour begins at 5 p.m, and costs $61 general and $43 per child. Snowshoes are available to rent for $20.

Nutcracker Ballet

What: Enjoy the Oakland Ballet’s performance of “The Nutcracker” at the Paramount Theatre as choreographed by artistic director Graham Lustig. Performances will feature live music by the Oakland Symphony.

Las Posadas

What: The community of Mission San Antonio will re-enact the Christmas story, or Las Posadas, in the Padre’s Garden this Christmas Eve. Attendees can take part in holiday caroling by candlelight at one of California’s historic mission sites.

Holiday Light Train

What: Passengers on the Holiday Light Train, which departs from the Santa Cruz Boardwalk, will enjoy caroling, hot drinks and visits from Santa. The vintage cars are adorned with holiday decorations and lights.

When: Train departs 6:30 p.m. Monday and Tuesday, Dec. 21 and 22; 5 and 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 23

Napa on Ice

What: The Napa Valley Expo will host a 6,300-square-foot outdoor ice skating rink through Jan. 10. All ages and ability levels are welcome. Daily ice skating includes free ice skate rental.

Reno Beer Crawl
