Escapes: In Galt, a tribute to our feathered friends

The ninth annual Galt Winter Bird Festival, a celebration of the area’s feathered friends, will be held from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 23, at McCaffrey Middle School, 997 Park Terrace Drive. The festival will offer dozens of educational programs, including presentations and workshops by local experts. Tours of the nearby Cosumnes River Preserve and Kingbird Farms, as well as a wine stroll and painting event, will be offered to people who register online in advance.

Admission is free, while tours range in price from $15 to $45.

Crab and wine days

 

What: Attend Mendocino County’s annual crab feed and wine celebration, sponsored by dozens of the area’s local restaurants, winemakers and fishermen. The festival will include crab cake and wine competitions, as well as seafood and wine tastings.

When: Friday, Jan. 22 through Jan. 31

Restaurant week

 

What: Restaurants in downtown Benicia will spend a week celebrating food and drink with specialty menus and discounts. Guests can download a dining passport online that offers up to 15 percent off at participating restaurants, including Elviarita’s Mexican Grill and First Street Café.

Winterpalooza

 

What: Enjoy an all-day, family-friendly event full of winter sports and other activities at Tahoe Donner resort’s Snowplay facility. Activities will include tube racing, snowman building, relay races and much more.

Gem faire

‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’
