Pirates and mermaids gather in Vallejo

Keep yer eyes open for pirates, swords and swashbuckling at the Vallejo Waterfront Park for the 10th annual Northern California Pirate Festival. Treasure hunts, zip-lining and mermaids are all part of the fun. Brush up on your pirate lingo before heading out. In the evening, adults can enjoy a burlesque show as well as live music.

The festival begins Saturday, June 18, and ends Sunday, June 19. Ticket prices vary from $10 to $25 per day, and the event is open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at 289 Mare Island Way.

Lavender fields forever

Triathlon

 

What: Catch the swimming, biking and running near the Monterey Peninsula at Lover’s Point Park for the annual Pacific Grove triathlon.

Pony Express

 

What: The Pony Express re-ride from California to Missouri is a 10-day (June 15-25), nonstop relay event that includes more than 600 riders and horses. The re-ride starts in Sacramento and the rider is scheduled to be at the Mormon Station State Park on Thursday, June 16, for a hand-off of the commemorative letters.

Kayak tours
