Looking to get back to nature this weekend? Effie Yeaw Nature Center in Carmichael is hosting its annual NatureFest on Sunday, June 7. The event allows visitors to experience Sacramento County’s vast natural scenery, native plant life and native and nonnative wildlife with the added benefit of helping raise money for the center..

Here’s what to know:

What is NatureFest?

Effie Yeaw Nature Center has hosted NatureFest for approximately 20 years. The vibrant community gathering celebrates the beauty and importance of the natural world, according to the center’s website.

The event will have live animal shows, nature-inspired activities and hands-on science, technology, engineering, arts and math adventures.

Rachael Cowan, Interim Executive Director of the Effie Yeaw Nature Center, said NatureFest allows the organization to not only highlight their efforts but also highlights 30 to 40 environmental-based organizations and the work they do.

“[NatureFest] is about the whole Lower American River Parkway and all the organizations who are working to support wildlife or clean water or healthy individuals engaging on the parkway,” said Cowan.

Exhibitors participating in the festival include Save The Snake, Sacramento Audubon Society and representatives from California State Parks.

All proceeds from the event will support environmental education programs for thousands of children and families at the Effie Yeaw Nature Center.

There will be food vendors present selling burrito bowls, quesadillas, lemon sorbet and cold beverages.
