Want to plan a camping trip that’ll be close to home? The Sacramento region features several campgrounds with beautiful scenery, cool lakes and a chance to get closer to nature.

Here are five local campgrounds for a fun nature escape.

Folsom Lake

Folsom Lake is located at the base of the Sierra foothills and provides visitors a chance for “glamping” at Beal’s Point. Folsom Lake provides opportunities for hiking, biking, running, camping, water-skiing and boating.

Rancho Seco Recreational Area

Located a 45-minute drive from downtown Sacramento is a 400-acre park at the Rancho Seco Recreational Area. People can visit with their RVs, tents or rent a cabin that includes a nine-inch foam mattress.

Crystal Basin Recreational Area

The Crystal Basin Recreational Area is described as the “sparkling jewel in the Sierras,” according to the Sacramento Municipal Utility District website. The area has over 700 developed campsites in the Crystal Basin.

Amenities: Fire ring, tale and parking spur, trash containers, toilets and many piped-in water.

Colusa Sacramento River State Recreation Area

The Colusa-Sacramento River campground has 14 developed campsites and is located near the Sacramento River. The campgrounds can accommodate tents, trailers and RVs. The area has a picnic and day-use area and boat launch.

Lake Camanche

Lake Camanche Resort features 550+ camping sites spread out over hundreds of acres. The site is home to beautiful native species of trees, plants and flowers. The area provides alcohol-free campgrounds for those looking for family-friendly experiences.
