3 Most Popular Netflix Movies Streaming Right Now (April 18-19)
The most popular movies on Netflix tend to be dominated by action-oriented titles, but there's a greater assortment of genres this week.
Netflix's new original comedy, Roommates, is the furthest thing from an action flick, and it may give viewers some much-needed laughs.
That's just the first pick for Watch With Us‘ roundup of the three most popular Netflix movies right now that you need to watch.
Our remaining selections include a survival thriller and a courtroom drama that played out nearly three decades ago.
‘The Requin' (2022)
The Requin was a direct-to-video film in 2022 that centered on Alicia Silverstone‘s Jaelyn, a woman who is suffering from a deep depression following a failed pregnancy. Her husband, Kyle (James Tupper), took Jaelyn on a trip to the coast of Vietnam to lift her spirits. But if she thought she was depressed before, Jaelyn is about to have even more reasons to be upset.
A tropical storm sends Jaelyn and Kyle away from the safety of their accommodations to the middle of the ocean, where hungry great white sharks are eager to get a piece of them. The sharks have sampled her husband; now they want the rest of him and Jaelyn as well. Getting out of this mess is going to require a great deal of ingenuity from Jaelyn, but the sharks are far from finished with her, even if she can get back to shore.
The Requin is streaming on Netflix.
‘Roommates' (2026)
If Roommates was simply about the developing friendship between college students Devon (Sadie Sandler) and Celeste (Chloe East), then it would be a very different movie and not necessarily a comedy. Devon's never been away from her parents, Brian (Nick Kroll) and Hannah (Natasha Lyonne), for any considerable length of time before. Having Celeste in her life as her roommate and friend helps her navigate those emotionally charged waters.
Or at least it used to. Now, Devon's at the stage where almost everything Celeste does annoys the heck out of her. Rather than talking through their differences, Devon's passive aggressiveness brings out the same in Celeste. Over time, their bond of friendship crumbles as they both try to gain the upper hand. If they aren't careful, there won't be anything left of their friendship to save.
Roommates is streaming on Netflix.
‘Denial' (2016)
Denial is based on a legal case that unfolded in the United Kingdom in 1996, when Holocaust scholar Deborah Lipstadt (Rachel Weisz) was sued for characterizing David Irving (Timothy Spall) as a Holocaust denier in her book. In the UK, the burden of proof for libel cases is on the defendant, and Lipstadt finds herself on the defensive as Irving twists the truth in court in order to rewrite history for the public record.
Lipstadt's natural inclination is to challenge Irving's claims directly. But there's real fear among her defense team that anything Lipstadt says will simply be used by Irving to discredit her. There may be only one way to beat this legal troll in court, but it involves Lipstadt acting against her instincts.
Denial is now streaming on Netflix.
