Influencer Siera Amaya Had 'Life-Saving' Surgery After Ectopic Pregnancy

Influencer Siera Amaya is on the mend after a "life-saving" emergency surgery.

"Friends and family, we wanted to inform you all that Siera had a ruptured ectopic pregnancy and required emergency lifesaving surgery on Sunday night," a Thursday, June 18, post on Amaya's Instagram read. "Siera is currently resting and recovering at home."

The statement continued, "Please keep our family in your prayers as we heal through this devastating pregnancy loss and time of grief."

An ectopic pregnancy occurs when a fetus grows inside of a woman's fallopian tube instead of her uterus, according to the Mayo Clinic. A fetus is unable to survive outside of the uterus, resulting in an inevitable pregnancy loss. If left untreated, the growing tissue can cause life-threatening bleeding or infection.

Siera and her husband, Tomás Karmelo Amaya, were expecting their second baby. The couple previously welcomed their daughter, Haseya, in April 2020.

"Happy to announce the arrival of our baby girl Haseya Coya Amaya! Labor started on our due date, Friday, April 17th just before sunrise and she was in our arms by sunset," Siera wrote via Instagram at the time, announcing her firstborn's birth. "As I sat there waiting for the next contraction I lifted a medicine tie to my nose filled with sage, cedar, sweet grass and other traditional medicines. Smelling the medicine of our people I was reminded of all the beautiful things this life has to offer."

She added at the time, "Staying calm and going into a deep spiritual meditation with each contraction and each dilating centimeter. I thought of your spirit, how you come in a time of resilience as the world is fighting for their lives. I thought of your ancestors and family who've prayed for you to arrive safely. I thought of your daddy @tomaskarmelo and the unconditional love with which you were brought into this world."

Siera further gushed that she felt "blessed" to be Haseya's mother.

"I thought of … how blessed I am to be there as your mommy guiding and caring for you every step of the way, my love," the influencer gushed at the time. "Surrounded by hozhó welcome to the glittering world my sweetheart."

She concluded at the time, "Thank you to all our family, friends, mentors, spiritual healers and medical health providers for helping us maintain a positive outlook throughout pregnancy during such uncertain times. We've been praying for all the mommas and babies who are at various stages of this sacred time and are here to show love and support!"

Siera and Tomás have not shared further updates about their journey to expand their family or her recent hospitalization.
