Prep time: 25 minutes Cook time: 15 minutes Makes 4 dozen
Katie Cox of Homewood, Ill., was looking for Halloween cookie recipes to make for a Halloween costume party. This Kraft recipe should fill the bill for Cox.
Note: The prep time does not include the 30 minute chill time for the dough or the 30 minute standing time after cookies are painted.
One 8-ounce package cream cheese, softened
1 cup butter, softened
2/3 cup sugar
½ teaspoon vanilla
2½ cups flour
One 3-ounce package Jell-O orange flavor gelatin
One 3- ounce package Jell-O lemon flavor gelatin
¼ cup water, divided use
Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
Beat cream cheese, butter, sugar and vanilla in a large bowl with a mixer until blended. Gradually add flour, mixing well after each addition. Shape into a 12-inchlong log. Cough will be sticky Refrigerate 30 minutes. Reshape into a triangular shaped log.
Cut dough into ¼-inch thick slices. Place 2 inches apart on a baking sheet. Bake 12 to 15 minutes or until edges are lightly browned. Cool on baking sheets 1 minute. Remove to wire racks to cool completely.
Empty orange and lemon flavor gelatin mixes into two separate small bowl. Add 2 tablespoons water to gelatin mix in each bowl and mix well. Use a clean paint brush to paint cookies with colored gelatin mixes to resemble pieces of candy corn. Let stand 30 minutes or until dry.
