Want to dine in some of the world's top 100 restaurants? Nine are a short drive away
An international magazine's list of the world's best places to eat has a strong Bay Area flavor.
The 2018 version of Elite Traveler's "Top 100 Restaurants in the World" includes 10 California restaurants, with five in San Francisco and four others in surrounding areas.
Here are those selections:
7. The Restaurant at Meadowood, St. Helena
26. The French Laundry, Yountville
47. Saison, San Francisco
54. Atelier Crenn, San Francisco
55. Manresa, Los Gatos
70. Coi, San Francisco
81. Benu, San Francisco
86. Single Thread Farm, Healdsburg
91. Quince, San Francisco
Single Thread Farm is new to the annual list. All of the other restaurants climbed from last year's rankings, with Atelier Crenn making the biggest jump (24 spots).
The lone Southern California location, Mélisse, is in Santa Monica. It ranked 89th.
For the sixth time in seven years, Alinea in Chicago took the top spot. Last year it was second, finishing behind Azurmendi of Larrabetzu, Spain, this year's No. 2 choice.
The list, which is compiled by reader votes, names 28 United States restaurants, including 14 in New York. France's 18 locations makes it second among countries.
