Elk Grove’s 18 Grams might not sound like much, but the business is making its weight felt in the Sacramento area’s craft coffee scene.

The Sacramento Bee’s readers voted 18 Grams Coffee Roasters as the region’s best roastery in a poll that concluded at noon Monday, with 8,707 of the 21,954 total votes cast (39.6%).

Danny Chuong and Justine Lee started 18 Grams at 9677 E. Stockton Blvd. in Elk Grove in 2017, and added a second location with a roasting equipment in the Howe ‘Bout Arden shopping center in 2019. Both serve a range of drinks including Vietnamese and Thai coffee, turmeric tea lattes and “18 to the Brain,” four espresso shots shaken with condensed milk.

Camellia Coffee was a close second with 7,817 votes, or 35.6%. Ryan Harden and Robert Watson’s cafe has fueled creative brains for six years in downtown Sacramento’s Warehouse Artist Lofts building at 1104 R St., Suite 150.

Bouquet Coffee Roasters, the in-house supplier for The Mill, finished third with 7.5%. Chocolate Fish Coffee was next with 6.4%, followed by Pachamama Coffee (3.2%) and Temple Coffee (2.3%).
