These are the best weekend farmers markets in Sacramento area, readers say

Readers recently cast more than 400 votes for their favorite weekend farmers market in the Sacramento area.

And even though readers were given several options to choose from, the “Write in your favorite” option ranked No. 3. Roughly 30 readers suggested their favorite market.

With so many write-ins, we won’t crown a winner this time. Here’s what readers told us:

MIDTOWN FARMERS MARKET

Address: 20th Street between J and L Streets and K Street between 19th and 21st Streets

Hours of operation: 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturdays

Midtown Farmers Market is a family-friendly year-round market that offers fresh produce, prepared foods and more.

It gained 139 votes, or 34%.

SUNDAY CERTIFIED FARMERS’ MARKET - ARDEN FAIR MALL

Hours of operation: 8 a.m. to noon on Sundays

Sunday Certified Farmers’ Market in Sacramento sells seasonal fresh produce grown by state growers.

It gained 83 votes, or 20%.

ASIAN FARMERS MARKET

Address: 5th Street and Broadway, Sacramento

Hours of operation: 5:30 a.m. to noon on Sundays

Asian Farmers Market in Sacramento sells a range of produce, including okra, bok choy, peppers and more.

It gained 40 votes, or 10%.

SATURDAY CERTIFIED FARMERS’ MARKET - COUNTRY CLUB PLAZA

Address: 2310 Watt Ave., Sacramento | Country Club Plaza

Hours of operation: 8 a.m. to noon on Saturdays

Similar to Sunday Certified Farmers’ Market, Saturday Certified Farmers’ Market in Arden Arcade is also a year-round market that sells fresh produce.

It gained 29 votes, or 7%.

CARMICHAEL FARMERS’ MARKET

Address: 5750 Grant Ave., Carmichael | Carmichael Park

Hours of operation: 9 a.m. to 2 a.m. on Sundays

Open year round, Carmichael Farmers’ Market offers a range of fruits and vegetables, honey, meat, herbs, dairy, oil and more.

It gained 24 votes, or 6%.

OAK PARK FARMERS’ MARKET

Produce, fruits and vegetables provided by farmer Mike Lao of TL Produce in Elk Grove during a media event to announce a new Oak Park farmers market starting in May. Oak Park is the poster child for lack of access to quality food. The only grocery stores are the discount variety that generally stock processed foods. South Sacramento residents hope to change that. Hours of operation: 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Sundays

Oak Park Farmers’ Market in Oak Park sells locally produced fruits and vegetables, bread, dairy, flowers and more, according to its Facebook page. The farmers market opens 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Sundays starting May 1.

It gained 17 votes, or 4%.
