Family-owned ice cream parlor Leatherby’s Family Creamery opened the doors on its fourth location Monday morning.

The new store is at 610 Twelve Bridges Drive in Lincoln. Its other stores are in Citrus Heights, Elk Grove and on Arden Way in Sacramento.

“I’m hoping to bring the same energy and joy that all the other Leatherby’s locations have done,” said Ryan Godfrey, a manager at the Lincoln store. ... Just to be a center stone for the community to come in, where people, young and old, and from any background can enjoy homemade ice cream.”

The Lincoln store is open from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. on weekdays and until midnight on weekends, according to a post from the store.

In addition to treats, the 1950s-diner-style restaurant also serves sandwiches, burgers and salads. It ranked third for best ice cream shops in the Sacramento area, according to a recent Bee poll of readers.

The Lincoln shop held a few soft-opening events last week, which was a chance for interested community members to welcome the new store to the neighborhood, the manager said.

He added the store’s first day is “going great.”

“Every time I come into work, I see people dropping by and I talk to them and they’re all excited about us opening up and being a part of our community here,” Godfrey said.

The creamery opened its first shop in 1984. Though challenged by the COVID-19 pandemic, the family-run store was able to remain open.

This month’s featured flavor is lemon, used in the LemonBerry Blitz sundae that will be available soon. A new summer flavor, Orange Dream, was recently introduced.

The store recently piloted a new takeout system on its updated Leatherby’s app. Starting June 1, Leatherby’s no longer accepted phone-in orders to “improve wait times and efficiency.”

“We were having trouble with accuracy, and with the app we can be more accurate and quicker,” Godfrey said.
