Specialty cheesecakes have found a home in Sacramento’s Downtown Commons.

Cakes by Jeff the Chef is opening Saturday, May 27 at 400 K St., Ste 210, offering cheesecakes of different flavors and sizes, the business announced late last week.

This will be Jeff Taylor’s first standalone storefront. Taylor, who grew up in Stockton and has lived in Sacramento for nine years, started Cakes by Jeff the Chef in 2010.

He’s been working on his cheesecake recipes and process for more than eight years, he said Monday.

Taylor’s cakes placed three times at the 2022 California State Fair’s Food Festival Competition. He was also the winner of the Food Network’s Sugar Showdown in 2016 and was recently featured on A&E’s Best in Chow, which will air in July, he said.

“We’re going to be able to reach more people and more people will be able to try our cheesecakes,” he said. “It’s just a dream come true.”

At the storefront, customers can choose from a variety of flavors, including state fair winners Banana Pudding — which has real bananas and homestyle pudding — and LV Pistachio. There’ll be new flavors too, including Raspberry Chocolate.

Prices start at $15.

Taylor said the store will eventually offer “Sweet Treats,” a flight of cheesecakes with small bites. Customers can also sign up for a cheesecake subscription to get their fix each month for a flat rate.

Grand opening

The cheesecake shop will open 11 a.m. Saturday, May 27.

There will be deals, prizes and free samples.
