New Korean pub and eatery opens in midtown Sacramento. What’s on the menu?

What's opening in the Sacramento area

Pocha House is having its “soft opening” in midtown Sacramento, serving up Korean pub-style bites and cocktails.

The restaurant and bar has been in the works at 1910 Q St. since last summer when Sacramento couple Daniel Ngo and Judy Han signed the lease in June 2022. The spot used to be home to Highwater, an American-fare restaurant, which closed during the pandemic.

“This is our dreams coming to fruition,” Han told The Bee in 2022. “It’s an exciting process. I think the biggest thing for us is just bringing something to Sacramento that we feel like hasn’t been seen or done in Sacramento before, and even more than that, it’s just our chance to show our culture and teach people something new.”

The soft opening started May 22 with a limited menu, according to the restaurant’s Instagram.

“Pocha” refers to Korean street food stalls, and that’s what you’ll find at Pocha House. Its current menu, according to Yelp, features bulgogi fries, which are deep fried French fries topped with beef bulgogi, kimchi and furikake, fried chicken wings, kimchi fried rice and pork belly salad. They also serve tteobokki, spicy rice cakes and fishcakes doused in sweet and spicy gochujang, and pasta.

Its cocktails also have a Korean flare. Pocha House has “The ABG,” made with Hennessy and grape soju, “S.E.S.ame Dreams,” with tequila, ginger and sesame oil, and “Mo Matcha Mo Problems,” made with vodka, soju and matcha.

The Bee could not immediately reach the restaurant for comment.

When is it open?

Pocha House is closed Tuesdays. It’s open 4 p.m. to 2 a.m. Wednesday to Monday.
