Sacramento Grilled Cheese Festival postponed indefinitely

A popular Sacramento food event will not take place as planned this year.

Organizers announced that the Sacramento Grilled Cheese Festival has been postponed indefinitely. Jessica Palmer of Seedless Events LLC, which runs the festival, said the decision was made to allow more time to ensure the festival meets expectations.

“We made the decision to postpone as a broader evaluation of where we’re at in terms of logistics and timing. One of the challenges, of course, is balancing the customer experience with making sure that we’re able to deliver on what we were able to achieve last year,” she said.

While there is no clear timeline for a relaunch of the festival, Palmer intends to keep it at Southside Park, where it has been since its inception in 2017. The organizers chose the park for its accessibility.

“We can have an entertainment area. We can have our shopping area with vendors, as well as all of the restaurants, and our food vendors also spaced out. I think the park itself is such an amazing venue for that,” Palmer said.

The festival relies heavily on volunteer efforts to run smoothly, including in the days leading up to the event.

“I really want to also highlight the volunteers who cleaned the park on the Friday before the festival weekend last year. So we had a wonderful experience where the grounds were clean,” Palmer said.

The event is known for its lineup of gourmet grilled cheese sandwiches from various Sacramento-area restaurants, as well as beer and wine offerings.

Last year’s festival was hosted over two days in April at Southside Park. According to organizers, changes to key planning and logistical elements this year led to the decision to delay the event in order to deliver a high-quality experience for guests and vendors.

The Sacramento Grilled Cheese Festival has been held annually since 2017, according to its website. The festival also has live music and DJs, and last year’s festival featured live performances by the National Wrestling Alliance.
