Where to pick your own flowers, fruit in the Sacramento area? See local options

It’s a great time of the year to head to the farmer’s market. Peaches, blackberries, and cherries abound, and other summer treats, like fresh tomatoes and corn, are starting to show up.

The fruits and vegetables at Sacramento’s farmer’s markets are great, but if you want them even fresher, you can go pick them yourself. Many farms in the area offer u-pick options for fruits, vegetables, and even flowers.

Here’s a guide to get you started. Be sure to check farm websites and social media pages for the most up-to-date information on prices and hours.

Where can I pick strawberries near Sacramento?

Many local farms offer u-pick strawberry experiences.

Yumm Strawberry has two locations, one in Elk Grove and one in West Sacramento. During this strawberry season, they are open from 9:30 A.M. to 7 P.M. Yumm Strawberry often advertises discounted rates for u-pick on their Instagram page. Currently, u-pick strawberries are $2.50 per pound at their Elk Grove location and $2.99 a pound at their West Sacramento location, along with a $3 dollar entrance fee at both sites.

Berry picking at Granny May’s Strawberry Farm in Granite Bay is by reservation only. Adults can buy a 64-ounce bucket for their strawberries at $15, and a 32-ounce child’s bucket is $6.

Where can I pick blueberries near Sacramento?

Rainbow Orchards in Apple Hill has opened reservations for weekend blueberry picking. The season starts on June 20.

Where can I pick blackberries near Sacramento?

Amber Oaks Berry Farm in Auburn is now taking reservations for picking its thornless blackberries, with sessions starting on June 20. Visitors are asked to call 530-885-3420 to make reservations, and the berries are $7 a pound.

Sun Strawberry LLC in Elk Grove sells strawberries, of course. But they are also open for blackberry picking, at $4 per small basket.

Where can I pick flowers near Sacramento?

No reservations are needed to pick your own flowers at The Flower Farm in Loomis. The price is $32 per bouquet, and the fields are open Thursday through Monday, from 10 A.M. to 4 P.M. Around 30 varieties of flowers will be available throughout the season, including zinnias, amaranth, sweet peas, and snapdragons.

Bluestone Meadows in Placerville offers u-pick lavender bouquets, as well as classes and festivals centered around lavender. Check their online calendar for hours and events.
