A new taproom is up and running near the Pocket/Greenhaven intersection.

Jasdeep Purewal opened Hop Junction at 7600 Greenhaven Drive, Suite 20, on Friday in the Riverlake Village Shopping Center. He'll run the taproom with his wife, sisters and parents, the first family business for any of them.

Hop Junction's 20-plus beers on tap come from relatively small California outlets such as Sudwerk, Six Rivers and Alpine Beer Co. as well as higher-distribution breweries like New Belgium, Belching Beaver and Modern Times. Most food options are fried meats and starchy bar food like loaded potato skins, though Purewal said he'll also serve a vegetarian sandwich with roasted garlic and quinoa. Wine is also available on tap.

Purewal and his family live in San Pablo but are looking for a place in Sacramento, he said. He's commuted from the East Bay to Greenhaven over the past year since a Bay Area friend suggested he open up shop in California's capital.

"I always liked Sacramento. The diversity of the area, there's all kinds of people over there," Purewal said.

Hop Junction's 1,200-square-foot facility is open from noon to 10 p.m. every day but Tuesday.
