French Toast in a mug is a quick, easy breakfast recipe that won’t make a mess

Sweet and decadent brunch food sounds like a perfect way to spend a Sunday out, but lately I’ve been feeling like staying in pajamas all morning and making a smaller (and slightly healthier) portion than I would get at an overpriced restaurant.

French toast in a mug is the perfect response to this conundrum of wanting brunch, but not wanting to leave the comfort of my house. It’s all made in the mug, so cleanup is simple, and it’s made of pantry staples. If you’re running low on bread but still have the heels, this is the recipe for you. Once they’re cut up and tossed with butter and egg, you won’t even be able to tell you were using the ends of a loaf.

The French toast recipe only takes a few minutes start to finish, and is a great way to introduce kids to cooking. Or perhaps it’s a necessary stepping stone in navigating dorm life and having only a microwave and mini-fridge at your disposal.

Almost any plain white bread will work in this recipe. A cinnamon swirl bread or honey oat bread will instantly add an additional layer of flavor and texture.
