Applesauce dump cake

Prep time: 15 minutes

Cook time: 30 minutes

Kathi Gibler of Vancouver, Wash., was looking for an applesauce dump cake recipe.

Marcia Miller of Sacramento shares this recipe that she found in “Quick and Easy Dump Cakes and More” by Cathy Mitchell. It sounds like a match for Gibler.

2 cups sugar

1 1/2 cups applesauce

1/2 cup shortening

1/2 cup water

2 eggs

2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour

1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda

3/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon

1/2 teaspoon ground cloves

1/2 teaspoon ground allspice

1/4 teaspoon baking powder

1 cup raisins

1/2 cup chopped walnuts

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Spray a 9-by-13-inch pan with cooking spray. Combine sugar, applesauce, shortening, water and eggs in a large bowl. Beat 2 minutes or until well-blended. Stir in flour, baking soda, cinnamon, cloves, allspice and baking powder until blended. Stir in raisins and walnuts. Spread batter in prepared pan.

Bake at 350 degrees for 25 to 30 minutes or until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean. Cool in pan on a wire rack. Serve warm or at room temperature.
