A downtown Davis restaurant owned by the partners behind Burgers & Brew and Crepeville has closed, citing minimum wage and supply cost increases.

El Toro Bravo took over 231 D St. from Baja Fresh in 2012, positioned a block from sister restaurants Burgers & Brew and Crepeville. The semi-casual concept from co-owners Derar Zawaydeh and Philippe Masoud offered lunch, dinner and weekend brunch, and had 3.5 stars on Yelp after 230 reviews.

“Due to the rising costs of goods and employment, we have to close at this time,” a sign on the door read. “We are sorry for any inconvenience and really appreciate your patronage over the years.”

El Toro Bravo’s Feb. 1 closure was first reported on the Davis Enterprise’s “Comings and Goings” Facebook page.
