Orangevale diner, shuttered by coronavirus order, announces it’s closed for good
Annie’s Breakfast & Steaks was supposed to reopen. As the coronavirus pandemic dragged on, though, that day never came.
The old-time diner, closed indefinitely since March 24, announced it will stay shut down Saturday afternoon on Facebook. Annie’s bid its customers farewell with a photo montage set to the Natalie Taylor song “Surrender.”
“It was a good run and a hard fight but with a lot of emotion we are sad to say it has come to an end,” the post read. “We love each one of you and will miss u all.”
Annie’s opened at 8800 Greenback Lane in an Orangevale strip mall more than 20 years ago and kept its prices rooted in the past. Smaller breakfast items like a scrambled egg burrito or buttermilk biscuits with country gravy cost less than $4, and most of the larger plates fell under $10 at the western-themed restaurant.
The 3,400-square-foot greasy spoon opened at 5 a.m. every day, a rare early morning option in Orangevale. It sold loaves of bread at $2 apiece at the start of the shelter-in-place order and initially hoped to reopen for takeout in early April, according to its Facebook page.
