Zebra Club in midtown Sacramento closes after customer tests positive for COVID-19

After weeks of operation with little social distancing, midtown Sacramento bar and grill the Zebra Club has temporarily closed following a customer‘s positive coronavirus test.

A handwritten sign on the door at 1900 P St. Tuesday informed customers that the Zebra Club would be shut for at least a few days.

“It has come to our attention that a customer has tested positive for coronavirus,” the sign reads. “We are taking a few days as precautions to disinfect our bar and have our staff tested for the safety of our customers.”

The Zebra Club opened for in-house eating and drinking on June 12, the first day Sacramento County restaurants could do so after the statewide shelter-in-place order. That wave allowed restaurants to serve drinks as long as they served food as well.

The Zebra Club’s bar side soon accrued long lines and a packed interior after midnight. A Sacramento Bee reporter found dozens of unmasked customers both lined up outside and packed around the bar the night it reopened.

Sacramento County reported 131 new COVID-19 cases Tuesday, by far the highest of any day during the pandemic. The county now has 2,374 total cases of the deadly respiratory disease, 390 of which have come since Saturday.
